Great for non-Christians to learn about Christian History and Culture. This book will help Catholics, Orthodox and Protestants better understand past history and is a reminder of the shared core beliefs of Christianity. Most importantly, it brings attention toe the many great Christian men and women that have made sacrifices to help others.

As the author of these books it has been very rewarding to read so many reviews that mention these books have an appeal that goes way beyond the Paper Money Collector. Quoting the IBNS review show below, "All in all, the trio of volumes serves as interesting "coffee table" fodder that is of interest not only to banknote collectors but also their guests, including those interested in religious themes, or perhaps as a gift."
Fellow Authors, Amazon, Ebay and the scholarly IBNS reviews have been shown below.
The IBNS is a much longer and detailed review. One of their "criticisms" of Vol-1 was that the book only provided "Pick Numbers" for a few of the notes. This approach was taken because the focus of this book was not a deep study of numismatics. Instead, this book is for the casual reader that would enjoy the imagery and stories associated with paper money.
These books do have the challenging historic images and history. Since I self publishing these book I was free to show unrestricted images and history that for the most part comes directly from the Encyclopedia Britannica. The author fills is is beneficial to know about this history.
Paper Money Messages is a fascinating tour through the exciting history of paper money. You'll be transported to the most interesting times and places and learn more than you ever thought you could from "mere" paper money. Highly recommended for anyone who likes paper money- and hey, who doesn't? Read the book and you'll find out!
Although I have been collecting notgeld and other paper money for 40 years, the author’s perspective of the true value of money is an astonishing read.
"Paper money from all around the world tells many fascinating stories and some currency even holds subliminal messages. Currency can range from anti-semitic, humor, liberation, emergency, travel and other forms of visual art that can take the bearer on a journey of adventure and or deceit enabling their imagination to wonder.
You don’t have to be a collector of Paper Money to appreciate all the hard work that has gone into these two volumes. The author Jeffrey Jerome Wing takes your mind on a trip of a life time exploring the worlds most fascinating art form in these two well written and illustrated volumes. A must for schools, travelers, collectors or just recreational reader."
What a great book. Completely filled with beautiful color banknote photos. Well worth the modest purchase.
Unlike 99% of the images in kindle books, these are superlative! You can't really appreciate the detail of paper currency without having it in hand or having a high quality photograph. The pictures here are "so" good, it's like holding the currency in the flesh. Kudos to the author and publisher for insisting on quality, and delivering it! I look forward to seeing volume 2 and 3 in kindle versions-especially volume 3; quality book on German notgeld are scarce as hens teeth.
I actually obtained the second volume first and was exceedingly pleased. This lead me to the initial volume. This volume does not disappoint. If you are a currency collector or a student of history there is a wealth of information contained that will be of interest to you. Every time you open the book you will learn fascinating information. Well written and carefully organized. Looking forward to the third volume.
I personally know Jeff and he is one guy that does his research. He has a passion for this and it shows in the first edition. He is an engineer by trade and does his work by the book (no pun intended). If you have a heart for money and love the back-stories - add this one to your collection.
Blessings Jeff- I look forward to the next edition.
A very interesting and informative study about paper money and it's uses over the years. I especially like that this book brings attention to "short snorters", which are a good and humbling reminder of those who served during World War II and made personal sacrifices for the freedoms that we now enjoy. Highly recommended!
This is a very interesting approach to history. I enjoyed immensely.
Interesting book about the history of some notes.
This well thought out and researched book is not just for collectors of paper money. It is full of interesting facts and has an incredible amount of history from countries all over the world. Who knew there were so many messages, both political and religious, on paper money? It was quite an eye opener for me.
Not only does Paper Money Messages have interesting facts on the history of money, great images of all the notes, but also interesting statistics throughout the book. The book is an easy read and a great gift of any history or world economics lover.
Excellent book. Did not realize all the hidden messages behind the figures on paper money.
Fantastic! Who knew there was so much history behind paper money? Very interesting and enjoyable read. The images are excellent. I highly recommend this book.
I bought this book for my dad and he has really enjoyed reading and learning about the background and history behind paper money. I highly recommend this book.

I love this book. Very interesting perspective....a history lesson as told through paper money.

This book takes a deep dive into not only history and currency, but the hidden meaning behind the propaganda that shaped our world. I am not a big history "buff" but this book is way more intriguing then any old history lesson. The pictures of the various notes from around the globe paired with the stories behind them truly make for an interesting unique experience with every flip of the page.
This was an interesting and fun read. I enjoyed learning about the history behind the notes and can’t imagine the hours spent researching. The photographs are great. Looking forward to Volume 2.
A great insight into history, politics and religion through the imagery of paper money.
No surprise that this is a terrific book to read! Lots and lots of interesting details about paper money from all around the world, and what the details hidden on the money actually mean. Very well researched. Once you start reading it, you can't put it down. Love the size of the pages so the pictures stand out.
Well researched and informative ... providing key facts left out of or incorrectly reported in textbooks. Very interesting compilation of data with supportive pictures. I haven't fully read the inflation section yet but did a quick skim of inflated economies with 1 Million currency bills and the direct correlation to debt. Interesting data driven historical perspective possibly applicable today.
What a rich collection! The book has a wonderful focus on the beauty of the currency with wonderful colorful blown-up zoom shots of the most interesting notes around the world, it is easy to flip through and engrossingly interesting to see world history play out on the currency of the day.
The books also shows money's darker side. I was amazed to see depictions of Jews and how Germans thought of them and treated them on their currency during the weimar hyper-inflation leading up to Nazi rule, demonstrating the deep seated hatred that already existed.
I was also amazed to see slaves depicted on confederate money as they were the real drive of the economy and the prosperity of the rich. I thoroughly enjoyed the journey and gained insight of periods of world history that are seldom explored. I hope you can as well!
This book is fascinating! The images are beautiful and intriguing, and the text is really interesting. I'm not a money collector, but I was drawn in by the stories behind the money. There is drama in these stories. And even humor! The breadth and depth of knowledge about history through the lens of money is deep and enjoyable to read. That is quite a combination!
What a unique history book! Each banknote has a story and this is a very entertaining collection of stories.
Didn't know anything about the history of money and how political it had been for years. Learned so much reading this book and loved the pictures. It makes a great gift.
This 2nd volume in the ‘Paper Money Messages’ series by Jeff Wing, specialises in German notgeld (emergency money issues). There is a whole story to be told about notgeld and Jeff has really done an excellent job here. The imagery on the depicted notgeld issues are superb and illustrate the different and varied points being made throughout the publication. The many different topics and themes depicted on the notgeld are discussed with great enthusiasm and research has obviously been actioned with great diligence.
The author obviously has a real passion for banknotes and notgeld issues and that oozes from the narrative. The hidden messages of the graphics and texts are explored in great detail and the reader is slowly drawn into an historical web of feelings, beliefs and out-cryings. This is a ‘must-buy’ for any passionate banknote and notgeld collector. Superb in presentation and depictions, you will not be disappointed. You will learn a lot from this book and the notgeld will become even more interesting as a result.
This is a lavishly-produced and intelligent review of the subjects and symbolism found on German "Notgeld" banknotes of the hyperinflation period. Given that the catalog of such notes runs to many volumes, a book like this can really only show a sample and point the way, but the book does so very, very well. There are so many hidden messages, jokes and complaints in these notes that you can study them for decades and still find surprises.
Printed on high-quality paper and in full color throughout, this is a book you don't just park on your coffee table, you read and reread it over and over again. A great addition to your "Notgeld" library and an essential book if you are interested in what the German national mood really was while their currency's value evaporated. Highly recommended!
Best paper money book out there! Very interesting history, great pictures, great reading, very well done!
This book is a treat to read. Amazing stories and detailed information on German notgeld paper money. Explores many of the ways to collect these fascinating pieces of history. Well organized with superb Illustrations. An essential reference for any world paper money collector.

PAPER MONEY MESSAGES A PICTORIAL PERSPECTIVE – VOLUME 1 (GLOBAL)
(Some text was cut due to space limitations)
By Jeffrey Jerome Wing. Published by CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform. 2020. 2nd edition. Softcover. Color throughout. 246 pages. English language. ISBN 978- 1530284276. USD 49.99 (EUR 41.19).

This is the first of a trio of self-published books by Jeffrey Jerome Wing, who became interested in paper money over a period of decades while volunteering around the world for Engineering Ministries International. What makes it stand out is that it is one of those rare banknote books which is not a catalog, historical treatise or detailed examination of printing or designs. It is essentially a printed blog of interesting topics about paper money.
If it were a hardbound book, it could be a “coffee table book”–nicely illustrated in color, and one you could read cover to cover, or browse one topic at a time. It is suitable for people who are interested in the hobby as well as longtime collectors–many anecdotes, many historical tidbits, etc. The content, to a great extent, represents the sort of thing collectors discuss when they “show and tell” pieces from their collection to non-collectors and collectors alike.
The organization is in an introduction and three chapters, each with multiple sections. Chapter 1 covers images, symbols and words (history of US paper money, portraiture, FECs, commemorative images), chapter 2 covers images of (American) Indians, slaves, POW camps, war issues, propaganda issues, and chapter 3 covers world inflation and has an introduction to Notgeld.
The two other volumes are Notgeld (2018) and Christianity (2019) respectively. While similar in format and price, they are not reviewed here. However, volume 1 boasts a significant content of Notgeld and of Christian themes and references as well, reflecting the author’s mission and collections.
The particular first volume reviewed here is the second edition, expanded from the first (2017, 232 pages), and while the colophon mentions June, 2018, the last page has the date of 21 December 2020. The second edition adds a section on “short snorters” and expanded imagery of American Indians.
The book consists of interesting stories and clearly is a labor of love. The topics are researched, sometimes in depth, but the research is at a “blog post” level of accuracy, rather than what one might expect of a scholarly volume. Much of the research is from the Encyclopedia Britannica. There are references at the end of each of the three sections, but there are no footnotes throughout, so it is impossible to tell where a particular fact was sourced from.
It reads like a blog post and with this caveat in mind, it is perfectly acceptable and, in fact, informative and delightful.
The organization of topics is rather random, and each chapter jumps from one topic to another; there is no real continuity. While this is perfectly fine for a book one would browse and skip around in, there is also no index and if you remember having read something interesting, for example, about the notorious Seychelles “SEX” and “SCUM” notes, you pretty much need to browse through the entire book to find it again. But this is a book that is more about browsing than references and, as such, it is a welcome and recommended book for any aficionado of paper money. I look forward to browsing the second and third volumes, and hopefully, more to come.

PAPER MONEY MESSAGES A PICTORIAL PERSPECTIVE - VOLUME 2 and 3
(Original Article)
By Jeffrey Jerome Wing. Published by CreateSpace Independent Publishing
Platform. 2018 and 2019. Softcover. Color throughout. 242 and 246 pages. English language. ISBN 978-1981161362 and 978-1530337798. USD 49.99 (EUR 44.06) each.

Volume 1 of this series of books was reviewed in Journal issue 60-1. The present review adds the subsequent volumes of this interesting and unique trio.
Volume 2 is subtitled "100th Anniversary of Notgeld" and while there has been earlier emergency money in Germany, Austria and throughout the world, the book focuses on the post-WWI Notgeld boom in Germany and Austria, which indeed began roughly 100 years ago. At the time, banknote collecting was not very well established, nor were banknotes more than crudely catalogued, but with the proliferation of German Notgeld, particularly the colorful Serienscheine, collecting became a rage in Germany, with catalogs, albums, colorful envelopes, marketing material, and more for what was perhaps the first
wide-scale "numismatic product" in the field of banknotes. Some items even ridicule the Notgeld-collecting mania.
This volume is replete with story-telling like volume 1 was, but brings along more depth and organization. The focus is thematic and very much on the design rather than the economic or numismatic aspects, complete with stories detailing the history of the imagery, as well as the historical context.
The major sections are the basics of Germanic Notgeld, legends and political themes on Notgeld, otherworldly creatures and superstitions, and antisemitism. This fourth section is morbidly foreboding, as these notes antedate the Third Reich by over a decade.
Volume 3 is entitled "Christianity" but could be expanded to "Imagery of the World's Religions on Banknotes, with a focus on Christianity." The book covers the background and coverage of the major world religions on banknotes, the spread of Christianity in Europe, Christian colonization (particularly of the Americas), and stories of individual missionaries.
This volume also focuses on the images on banknotes and the storytelling behind the images, rather than on the numismatic aspects. More than half of the banknotes imaged are made for collectors, including many Serienscheine Notgeld, as well as fantasies such as O Euro notes.
All in all, the trio of volumes serves as interesting "coffee table" fodder that is of interest not only to banknote collectors but also their guests, including those interested in religious themes, or perhaps as a gift.
